Ingredients:

  • 4 high-quality frozen beef patties (80/20 ratio, 1/3 lb each)
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp coarse black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp sea salt
  • 4 sprouted grain buns
  • 1 large avocado, sliced
  • 1 cup microgreens or Bibb lettuce
  • 1 heirloom tomato, sliced

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the grill. Turn all burners to high for 10 minutes until the thermometer hits 400°F.
  2. Prep the patties. Brush both sides of the 4 frozen beef patties with 1 tbsp avocado oil.
  3. Mix the rub. Combine 1 tbsp smoked paprika, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp coarse black pepper, and 0.5 tsp sea salt in a small bowl.
  4. Initial sear. Place patties directly over the flames and close the lid for 3 minutes until they release easily from the grates.
  5. Flip and season. Flip the patties and generously sprinkle half of the spice rub over the seared side.
  6. Second sear. Close the lid and cook for another 3 minutes until the bottom has distinct grill marks.
  7. Switch to indirect. Move the patties to the unlit side of the grill (or turn the burners to low) and season the other side with the remaining rub.
  8. Cook to temp. Close the lid for 5-9 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  9. Toast the buns. Place the 4 sprouted grain buns on the grates for 60 seconds until the edges are golden and crackling.
  10. Assemble and rest. Layer the tomato, burger, avocado, and microgreens, then let the whole thing sit for 3 minutes until the juices settle into the bread.
