Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tbsp mirin
- 1 tbsp grated Asian pear
- 1.5 lbs sirloin tip steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 bunch scallions, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 large red bell pepper, cut into 1-inch chunks
- 1 tbsp neutral oil
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 stalk green onion, thinly sliced
Instructions:
- Identify the grain of the meat and cut perpendicular to the muscle fibers into 1-inch cubes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, mirin, and grated pear. Whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Toss the beef cubes in the marinade, cover, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to 4 hours).
- Thread the marinated beef, bell pepper, and scallion pieces onto soaked bamboo skewers, leaving small gaps between pieces.
- Heat neutral oil over medium-high heat in a grill pan or on an outdoor grill. Sear skewers for 3-4 minutes per side until they reach a dark, mahogany brown color.
- Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onion before serving.
